Learning Leadership Traits from Your Puppy!

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

For the past couple of months I’ve been taking basic puppy obedience classes (http://staynplaypetranch.com/page/nznf/Obedience_Training.html) (highly recommend Barbara Perry) with our Australian Shepherd puppy (9mos), “Paul”.   Actually, my husband took him to obedience previously but neither of us seemed to be able to schedule the time to do the homework in-between classes so we decided it be good for ”us” to take the class over. Keeping it Simple by just “be-ing”!

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

During this time of the year when the stores have barely put up the Halloween decorations before they’re putting up the Christmas decorations – much less the Thanksgiving decorations – I can find myself swept up in a myriad of feelings.  (more…)

I’m a Tech Whisperer

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

I’m a “Tech Whisperer”. The specific nuance of the name hit me as I sat with a techie in the middle of one of his three rants during our forty minute coaching conversation.  After each outburst he would calm down and compliment me on how “I really got him”. (more…)

Being Happy in the Hear and Now!

Monday, September 24th, 2007

I love what I just “got” out of a chapter from the book, “After the Ecstasy, the Laundry” by Jack Kornfield.  What I got is what we, of the spiritual seeking ilk, have been told ad-nausea and it is that the most important time is NOW.  But I “got” it in a way that makes me laugh both with and at myself simultaneously and to feel giddy.  (more…)

Re-teening Ourselves

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

I know that’s not a good word, “re-teening” ourselves and it probrably isn’t even a real word found in Webster’s but I suspect after you read this article you’ll see why I came up with this title!

We never had children so at 49, I sometimes forget that I’m as old as I am (with no one around to remind me about what a dork I am…) and therefore can be found spontaneously dancing to an imaginary tune for a friend as we stand in line at the grocers or becoming really happy when I hear my friend Andy Hartsock sing this song http://www.andyhartsock.com/Audio/5Monkeys.mp3 which is really meant for kids but I can get away with it because, again, I don’t have teenagers reminding me to be seen (when they tell me) and not heard!! Moving Outta Being Stuck!

Monday, September 17th, 2007

When it dawns on me that I’ve become focused on sweeping up every granule of cat litter strewn throughout our house resulting from our puppy’s prior smorgasbord, I know that I am in the process of getting myself unstuck. I prefer to see my actions this way rather than just plain ole procrastination. (more…)

United Buddy Bears

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

One of the unexpected surprises during our recent visit to Israel was to come upon the “Unity Buddy Bears” exhibit located in the Safra Square in Jerusalem.  There are 133 fiberglass bear statues from countries all across the world to promote world unity and peace.  The bears were big (tall and wide) and beautiful (decorated/painted by world renowned artists), though I thought the U.S.’s Buddy Bear could have shown more imagination (it was painted green to look like the Statue of Liberty) most of the bears were exquisite. Two Stepping Around My Higher Power!

Monday, July 30th, 2007

For years I have studied the 12 Steps (of Alcoholic’s Anonymous) and tried to apply them to my life. I’ve also explored, learned and taught all kinds of information regarding how to live my life well, to get out of myself (while taking care of myself at the same time…) and how to give back to others through various forms of service. Life and Career in Transition

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

I’m beginning to believe that “transition” is a term for the 00’s.  From the time we were all zygotes, we’ve been in transition so it should come as no surprise to us when after twenty-five years or even five years of working in a comfortable job we find ourselves having to look for another one either because our company is laying off or because we are just plain bored. Living and Dying Well Today

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

The longer I live the more I realize that not only is it important for us to learn how to live well, it is also important for us to learn how to die well too.  I’ve written before about how a good friend of mine invited our group of friends to know him even more intimately as a friend after he was diagnosed as being HIV Positive.  We were all given the privilege of walking through the day to day “being-ness” with our friend Norbert as he faced living and dying.  One of the biggest lessons I learned was that each person gets to trip the light fantastic to their death as they see fit.  It is not for me or any other loved one of theirs to put our beliefs, inspirations and fear onto them. We can share, of course, our own experience, strength and hope but in the final outcome how a person chooses to live and die is their own personal choice. (more…)
